Welcome to Germany!

As we have guests arriving from all over the world, we want to help you turn our August 2026 wedding into a broader vacation!

We’ve put together a few "plug-and-play" itineraries around our Welcome Party on August 14th and the Wedding on the 15th. Be sure to check out Claire's custom map on this page to see all these recommendations color-coded: look for yellow pins for Food & Drink, blue pins for Sightseeing, and green pins for Nature/Parks.

Option 1: The "Quick Weekend" (1–2 Days)

Perfect if you are arriving just in time for the festivities and want to keep things local.

  • Morning in Kronberg: You don't even need a car to explore the immediate area around Schlosshotel Kronberg. Start by wandering the beautiful castle grounds or taking an easy walking trail into the Taunus mountains.

  • Lunch in the Altstadt: Stroll down into Kronberg’s historic Old Town (Altstadt) to grab a bite to eat.

  • Afternoon in Frankfurt: Take a short train ride into Frankfurt. We highly recommend checking out the Römerberg (the Old Town square), walking the Main River path, and exploring the museum district.

Option 2: The "Long Weekend" (3–4 Days)

Ideal if you are arriving a couple of days early or extending your stay past the weekend.

  • Everything in Option 1, plus:

  • The Rhine River Valley (1–2 Hours Away): Rent a car or take the train to this famous region for world-class wine tasting, historic river cruises, and castle hopping.

  • Wiesbaden: Spend an afternoon in this beautiful, historic spa town.

Option 3: The "Euro-Trip Extension" (5+ Days)

For our international guests making a grand European vacation out of the journey!

  • Everything in Options 1 & 2, plus:

  • Heidelberg: Take an easy day trip to this famous university town to see the incredible Heidelberg Castle.

  • Further Afield: Take advantage of Frankfurt's high-speed train network! You can easily catch a train to Munich, Berlin, or even Paris to continue your European adventure.

Travel Logistics 101

  • Getting Around: The local train network (RMV) and the national train system (Deutsche Bahn/DB) are incredibly reliable. We recommend downloading the DB app (available in English and Korean) to check schedules and buy tickets easily.

  • Taxis & Rideshares: Uber does work in the area, but it is also highly recommended to download FREENOW, which is a very popular local taxi app.

  • Currency & Tipping: Germany uses the Euro. Tipping is slightly different than standard US rates; it is customary to tip about 5–10% by simply rounding up your bill when you pay the server.

  • Cash is (Still) King: While credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are much more widely accepted now, Germany still relies heavily on cash compared to the US and Korea. It’s highly recommended to carry some physical Euros for small bakeries, local markets, or smaller taxi fares.

  • Sunday Closures (Ruhetag): This is a big one for weekend travelers! Almost all supermarkets, pharmacies, and retail shops in Germany are strictly closed on Sundays. Restaurants, cafes, and museums usually remain open, but guests should plan to buy any necessities or snacks before Saturday evening.

  • Power Adapters: Germany uses Type C and Type F power outlets (the standard two-prong European plugs). Guests traveling from the US or UK will need to bring an adapter. (Note for your Korean guests: Korean Type C/F plugs generally work perfectly in Germany!)

  • Weather & Packing: August in the Taunus region is generally beautiful and warm, but keep in mind that European air conditioning isn't always as strong or ubiquitous as it is in the US or Korea. Pack breathable layers, comfortable walking shoes for the cobblestone streets, and a light jacket for the cooler evenings.
